About the Role

Wye River Upper School is now reviewing applications for a talented and innovative art educator. We are looking for a candidate who is committed to cultivating an exceptional academic experience for students with learning differences. This educator is a collaborator in a dynamic educational community. The selected candidate should have a desire to contribute to the school community by sharing their passions and participating in school functions, professional development, field trips, and other special activities.

We are searching for an Art Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This art teacher will have classes in the foundations and fine arts, and, at times, electives of their choosing. Qualified candidates will have demonstrated successful experience working with students in several mediums such as painting/drawing, ceramics, graphic design, and other digital media.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in fine art, art education or related field.

- Teacher certificate in secondary education preferred or demonstrated teaching skills and experience

- Experience working with special education populations is a plus, Certificate in Special Education a plus, though not required

- Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills

- Comfortable working with technology including a 1:1 laptop program, google applications, and an online learning management system

- Genuine excitement for and the ability to work with upper middle and high school students

Professional Responsibilities

- Teaches multiple sections of visual arts courses to grades 8-12 and students of varying levels

- Plans for unique, project-based, and student-centered learning

- Contributes to the art curriculum by providing information and commentary pertinent to course content considerations

- Creates, collaborates, and analyzes authentic student data to drive instruction

- Establishes art course outlines and objectives by following curriculum guidelines, and state and school system goals

- Assesses student work by preparing, administering, and scoring rubrics; reviewing and correcting written assignments; evaluating student learning

- Involves parents in student development by providing information and comments regarding academic and social progress; suggesting available educational and social improvement resources; addressing parent concerns; answering questions and requests

- Maintains classroom order by establishing rules and procedures for student participation and movement, adhering to rules for a clean, safe and healthy environment

- Maintains student records by documenting learning accomplishments, attendance and behavior

- Participates in school meetings, professional development, field trips, and special activities

- Demonstrates a commitment to student learning, personal growth, and embraces a growth mindset through daily actions and attitude

- Partakes in off-site experiential trips which may include an overnight experience

- Assists in the planning of the school’s annual artistic showcase
