Centered around project-based learning and real-world problem solving, the Makerspace also fosters the 6 C's - creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, character, and cosmopolitanism - that Wye River Upper School promotes throughout its curricula with vigilance. Access to the Makerspace is through dedicated classes and cross-curricular planning with all WRUS content teachers, with measurable student outcomes that are embedded and monitored throughout a yearly instruction plan.

Wye River Upper School positions the Makerspace as another one of many approaches the school uses to develop our student's evolving executive function skills by promoting the hallmarks of the 12 Demonstrations of Learning - time management, prioritizing, teamwork, and leadership - through a motivating platform.

The Wye River Upper School Middendorf Makerspace opened its doors in 2019, thanks to funding provided by The Middendorf Foundation and the Gracye B. Kerr Fund, Inc. Located adjacent to the school's main campus, the 1000-square-foot renovated facility houses a range of low-and high-tech tools that inspire our students' design and production skills.
