Welcome Cynthia Bayne, New Humanities Teacher
We are excited to have Ms.Cynthia Bayne join the Wye River Upper School team as our new Humanities Instructor. Cindy earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education at West Virginia Weslyan College, specializing in Social Studies and Dramatic Arts. She also holds a Maryland Educator Certificate.
Cindy brings extensive experience from public and private settings as well as abroad to her Wye River students. In addition to teaching Humanities and Drama in Hong Kong for several years and teaching English in Korea, Cindy has lead learning expeditions to Thailand, New Zealand and Italy. While teaching in both middle and high schools, Cindy has been instrumental in developing engaging curriculum across content areas, structuring systems for mentorship and providing specific support for students with Executive Function needs.
(*Cindy's photo above) Cindy is dedicated to connecting with students and helping them become compassionate global citizens. She explains, "I want students to be thinkers and be informed, but I also want them to be kind, appreciative and thoughtful. If they are good historians but they don't care about the world, I haven't done my job."
Apart from teaching and traveling widely, Cindy is an avid reader, enjoys catching Rockfish, and is an accomplished photographer and musician. She has even been caught on camera sky diving! With Cindy's range of experiences, love of learning, and strong investment in students' lives, we already appreciate the transformative difference she is making at Wye River.
