"Most educational institutions
haven't even begun to think about how to use the newest
technologies in sophisticated ways to reform education
and make it more effective. It is wonderful to have
a school in our neighborhood that is already moving
in the right direction. "
-- Thomas G. West, Advisor to the Board
Our technology
is state-of-the-art at Wye River Upper School. Every student
and teacher uses an Apple laptop computer. The use of laptops
has had an impressive list of positive outcomes, including:
Promoting increased homework completion rate (digital
delivery from home or class).
More effective organizational skills.
Audio and visual production skills.
Enhanced comprehension of higher level concepts.
Increased parent-teacher communications, student-teacher
communication, and teacher-teacher communications.
Wye River Upper School teachers supervise world wide web networks
to ensure safety. Our students work with and learn from:
iMovie - to record and edit their own short movies and
slide presentations.
iPhoto - to capture, edit and create using their personal
and school photos.
iCartoon - to turn facts, concepts and information into
animated movies.
Garage Band - to compose, record and arrange personal
and ensemble music performances.
iTunes - to study by music and to enhance the effects
of custom movies and slide shows.
MacJournal - to take and organize class notes and assignments.
Bluetooth and email - to receive and deliver assignments
and communications in class and at home.
