Welcome to the Wye River Upper School music website!  Here you will find students’ song projects, concerts’ pictures and a synopsis of our curriculum.

Music introduction provides the student with a strong foundation in rhythm theory.  By reading rhythmic exercises, practicing rhythmic dictations and rehearsing short percussion ensemble pieces, the student understands rhythm as the main element in music and gains the ability to better perform in music ensembles.  In addition, this understanding of rhythm theory will provide the music student an easier approach to his/her particular instrument of interest.

In Music Ensemble class the student is introduced to harmony.  Also, the student is presented with his/her instrument of interest and is prompted to apply the theory material to the instrument and to personal music compositions.  In addition, this advanced music level offers the student the possibility to perform different music styles such as rock, reggae, jazz, blues, country, rap, caribbean, and salsa in an ensemble setting.
