About Us: Our Mission

WRUS is an independent, college preparatory school serving students with learning differences. We discover through innovation, develop with rigor and celebrate the strengths of our students, while preparing him or her for success in college, career and life.

The Value of WRUS:

For Lisa and I, it’s pretty hard to articulate the real value of the education our son is getting at WRUS. Sure, we can identify the tuition costs, but that hardly equals the VALUE. For us, WRUS offers the critical education environment for “twice exceptional” kids like our son Shriver. He is very, very smart, but has found it increasingly difficult to adjust to the larger public schools where self-management is critical. At WRUS, the wonderfully small class sizes, as well as a real, deep understanding of these kids and their challenges, leads to a learning environment where these students feel valued and successful. Reasonable expectations in terms of a student’s ability to demonstrate knowledge and mastery of a subject or topic does not mean mountains of homework. Rigorous coursework modeled around each kid’s unique learning styles allows students like Shriver to learn and progress at his pace. No corners are cut, but rather traditional obstacles that these kids encountered previously are removed. The result is a confident kid who no longer dreads going to school, and who is beginning to reach his real potential without having to abide by a one-size-fits all mentality of education. To borrow from a much-used commercial – that is priceless!
