Support the WRUS Annual Fund

Your gift to the WRUS Annual Fund allows us to enrich and personalize the educational experience for our students. Through your donation, we will continue to develop opportunities for each student to shine and thereby build the confidence and self-esteem of these amazing teenagers.

Here are few examples of how students have benefited from recent Annual Fund gifts:

A gift of $2,000 was given to WRUS, with the instructions for it to be used toward arts programming.  The donor had a vision and an understanding of how art impacts the lives of youth, especially for students with learning differences who are so often hands-on learners and creative thinkers. With that gift, Mr. Martinez, WRUS Director of Art and Technology, arranged for four professional artists to work directly with students. Not only did this give students incredible exposure to a variety of art techniques but also a diverse perspective on the business of making art.

A combination of smaller gifts, donated by family and friends in memory of Robert “Bob” Moore, was directed to the WRUS Athletic program. Bob loved to watch his kids and grandkids play sports in all ages and phases of their lives.  So to honor Bob, these funds were used to support a new walking/running club. With this new morning program WRUS students are getting in shape and developing good fitness habits that will last a lifetime.

With the proceeds of the Annual Fund, we have also been able to increase our professional development for our teachers and staff.  This year we used an Annual Fund donation to send Carrington Ritchie, a Social Studies teacher, to a workshop at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. where he explored vast amounts of primary resources, including audio and visual recordings and primary documents. Mr. Ritchie brought these teaching tools and research skills back to his classroom to make the study of Civil Rights truly come to life for his students.

Please consider a gift to the WRUS Annual Fund. Whether or not you specify how you would like your gift used, you can be sure we will turn every donation into another meaningful experience for our students.
